Most dogs will show noticeable results after a few sessions. The time depends on how often your dog uses the ScratchSnack pad and how long their nails are to begin with.
For best results, we recommend short, regular sessions of 2-3 minutes, a few times a week. Over time, consistent use helps maintain a smooth and healthy nail length without the need for clippers.

How To File The Back Paws
Try this trick for back paws—place the scratch pad at an incline (against a step or wall) and lure your dog to step up with their front paws. As they shift weight, their back paws will naturally make contact with the pad.
Another method is the 'kick-back reflex'—place the pad behind your dog and lightly touch their back leg. Most dogs will instinctively kick back, filing their nails in the process!
With some treats and praise, they’ll get the hang of it quickly! It may take slightly longer than training for front paws as they’re more aware of the front paws so a little patience will go a long way!

How Does it Work?

Step 1
Place the treats in the snack box and let your dog eat from the snack box several times, so that your dog understands food will always be there.

Put the treats in again, but this time close the lid of the snack box (only leaving a small gap) and encourage your dog to scratch to open the snack box.

Point towards the file and guide your dog saying 'scratch', 'get it', etc. Once your dog scratches the file, immediately open the snackbox and reward the dog with treats

Step 4
Praise and repeat the process to make scratching for the snack box a habit. As you progress, reward your dog after longer scratching. And remember to have fun!

My baby hates her nails looked at, talked about, touched, everything about her nails, have to have her sedated at the vet to get them done, which she is only getting older and I don t feel comfortable to keep having her sedated- this board came today and she didn t even hesitate to use her paw to open it- it s going to be work but this seems perfect- she is getting to flip the board with her nose, so I do have to keep holding it down.
